On Friday a group of former 7th and 8th grader basketball players from what was the Catholic Middle School League reminisced about their win in the New England State Championship in 1976. The reunion was moving, with some former players traveling as far as from Minnesota, Maryland and Florida. The group honored coaches Peter Borchetta and David D’Andrea, sharing a slice of Greenwich’s history.

Keynote speaker Ali Morgan, DEI practitioner and education coach, emphasized that “the talk” with children about inclusion and navigating racism is not a one-time perfect conversation, but rather a series of moments.
“It’s a question at the dinner table, or in the car. It’s a comment after school, or a moment of confusion or discomfort…How we respond in those moments is ultimately what matters.”
On Saturday, Greenwich’s CERT team participated in a Westchester Airport Emergency exercise that simulated a JetBlue plane crashing into Playland Lake.

Update Wednesday, April 8: Greenwich Schools Superintendent Dr. Jones described a statement made by STA’s public relations representative Lynette Viviani as inaccurate. Viviani said in an email to GFP on Tuesday that Greenwich Schools informed STA they did not need their services until school resumes.
Jones said Greenwich Schools did not make this statement to STA, and that the district was utilizing STA’s services to deliver lunches, and was surprised when STA halted service on Friday. Jones said that should STA resume service tomorrow, the district would be happy to pay for those services again. Continue Reading →
