Longford’s Ice Cream celebrated their grand opening in Greenwich on Saturday. The location at 21 Glen Ridge Road represents the company’s first Connecticut location.
The location is in the former Glenville post office building, extensively renovated and now home to Luca’s Pizzeria, Green & Tonic and Bluebird Taqueria.
The spot has become a destination for its food scene, and plans are in progress for a DeCicco & Sons supermarket to open in the former Stop & Shop building. Plans were approved by the Greenwich P&Z commission last October.

Christine Santorelli, who has run the Longford’s in Rye, NY for almost 25 years, explained she has the license to operate Longford’s in Glenville and was excited to have found a location within the Greenwich community.
“It’s ideal to be so close to the civic center and right next to Luca’s Pizza,” she said.
Ralph Pietrafesa, who owns the brand, the name and the factory in Stamford, said the process and ingredients make Longford’s ice cream unique.
“Everything is still made by hand. It’s small batch. We break cookies by hand, and we add sauces and ingredients by hand,” he said. “And we have the unique ability to get ingredients that most other places can’t get because of the relationships we’ve developed over our 32 year run of business.”

“We’ve developed a lot of relationships with companies that don’t sell to your average person making things in the back of the store,” Pietrafesa added. “We procure ingredients that your average place can’t get and we have exclusive agreements with these companies. You won’t find a Georgia peach, or our Mint Chip, or our Grand Slam anywhere else because other places don’t have the ability to get the ingredients.”
Along with the Glenville and Rye, NY locations, Longford’s has nearby locations in Armonk and Larchmont.
In Old Greenwich, Anna Buzik, owner of Cups N’ Cones on Sound Beach Ave, recently announced they too are offering Longford’s to their customers.
