MLK’s Time in Connecticut: An eye to a world beyond the Jim Crow South

“Less well-known, even to Connecticut residents, is the story of Martin Luther King, Jr.’s two summers picking tobacco in Simsbury.  In 1944 and 1947, the 15-year old, Morehouse College-bound student cultivated and picked tobacco on the Cullman Brothers’ “Meadowood” Tobacco farm with a coterie of his fellow Morehouse students.  The time that King spent in Simsbury not only helped him decide to become a Minister, like his father, but also transformed his previous mindset – that African-Americans and white Americans could not interact peacefully.'” – François Steichen Continue Reading →

Father Richard Murphy Named 2025 Greenwich St Patrick’s Parade Grand Marshal

Father Murphy was ordained a priest in 1996 at St. Augustine Cathedral in Bridgeport by then, Bishop Edward Egan. His first assignment was St. Thomas the Apostle in Norwalk, after that St. Cecilia in Stamford, then as pastor he was assigned to St. Theresa in Trumbull followed by being made pastor of Our Lady of Peace in Stratford, In 2014 he was assigned to St. Michael parish in Greenwich. Junior League of Greenwich Volunteers Donate 300 Sandwiches for Local Children in Need and Seeks Women of All Ages and Backgrounds to Join Their Organization

The Junior League of Greenwich (JLG) proudly made and delivered 300 sandwiches for children in after-school programs at the Boys & Girls Club, Kids in Crisis, and Barbara’s House. This initiative ensured that children in these programs received proper nutrition while focusing on their studies and activities. This effort was made possible thanks to generous donations from Neri’s Bakery, which provided the buns, and Acme Markets, which contributed meat and cheese. The JLG also relies on its 500 dedicated volunteers, who contribute to projects ranging from single-day events to long-term initiatives that leave a lasting impact. Notable projects include:
