The 19th Abilis Walk and 5K Run benefited from gorgeous fall weather on Sunday morning at Tod’s Point. The community came together to support the beloved organization that provides assistance to adults and children with developmental disabilities and their families. People participated with family, friends, co-workers and teams. Carnival for a Cause returned with face painting, balloon artists, and other free kids activities.
Back again to make warm-ups a lot of fun was Billy Blanks Jr (who promised to run the 5K next year!)
Turnout was high for the event, which is the organization’s largest “friend-raiser” of the year. The funds raised from the event will be restricted to new initiatives at ensuring that Abilis can continue their mission to the over 800 individuals and families they support annually.
Sam Parks, age 23, of Stamford, was introduced as this year’s official Walk/Run Ambassador. Sam participates in the REACH – Residential, Education & Employment, Activities, Community and Health – program, a supported living program designed for individuals 18 and older who have a level of physical and mental health, and the safety skills needed to live independently, without 24/7 support.
