The Greenwich Botanical Center recently announced an exciting opportunity to double the impact of community contributions.
The Around Foundation has stepped forward to match every dollar donated to GBC’s Annual Appeal—up to $100,000—through December 31, 2024.
This matching challenge offers supporters a unique chance to amplify their impact and invest in a future where the transformative power of plants continues to inspire and connect people of all ages.
“We are incredibly grateful to the Around Foundation for this transformative opportunity,” GBC Board President Elizabeth Peyton said in a release, adding, “Support from our community coupled with these matching funds will empower the GBC to expand and enhance our programs and operations. The Around Foundation’s generous support is a vote of confidence in our mission and the work we do.”
As GBC proudly enters its 68th year, it remains at the forefront of horticultural and botanical education in Greenwich.
Over the past year, GBC has actively expanded its community impact by introducing innovative programming and cultivating meaningful partnerships.
Highlights include:
- Hosting over 1,000 Greenwich Public School students for nature-based field trips, with the new botanical art program earning “Assured Experience” status for 4th graders.
- Welcoming 400+ families to Forest Days programs, which continue to grow in popularity.
- Doubling partnership programming with Christ Church Preschool and launching a new collaboration with the New York Botanical Garden.
- Reaching 250+ adults with enriching workshops, lectures, and hands-on classes.
These achievements underscore GBC’s commitment to fostering connections between people and plants. The Annual Appeal and matching challenge are vital to sustaining and growing these initiatives, as well as investing in future infrastructure and expanded access to nature education.
“As Michael Pollan reminds us, ‘The garden suggests there might be a place where we can meet nature halfway.’
At GBC, we are creating spaces for discovery, stewardship, and connection,” said GBC Executive Director, Phoebe Lindsay. “This $100,000 match will ensure we can reach more people, especially those who face barriers to accessing nature, and continue to nurture a healthier future for all.”
