Arthur and Elizabeth Martinez Family and Dr. James Brunetti to Be Honored at Benefit for Greenwich Hospital

Greenwich Hospital announced that its former Board of Trustees Chairman, Arthur C. Martinez, Mrs. Elizabeth Martinez and family, and physician James A. Brunetti, DO, will be honored at its annual Benefit on Friday, May 20, 2022.

Former Today Show co-host and longtime Riverside resident Kathie Lee Gifford will serve as master of ceremonies.

The annual event, returning after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, will be held at Greenwich Country Club and benefits five key areas of growth for Greenwich Hospital: Oncology, Children’s, Neuroscience, Heart & Vascular and Behavioral Health.

Arthur C. Martinez, retired from a distinguished career as chairman, president and chief executive officer of Sears, Roebuck and Co., leader of other corporations, and director of boards of Fortune 500 companies.  He played an active role on Greenwich Hospital’s Board of Trustees for 19 years, beginning in 2002. Mr. Martinez, who is currently a Trustee Emeritus, had led or co-led the board for three terms.

“Nothing touches a community more than their healthcare and how healthcare is delivered. This is what drew me to the hospital,” said Mr. Martinez. “The campaign to build the new Watson Pavilion started in 2005. I transitioned to chairman while this was going on and was fortunate to have moved into a position when we had a new physical plant. It became a magnet for patients and physicians.”

Martinez’s visionary leadership helped guide the hospital through a strategic affiliation with Yale New Haven Health that has left an indelible mark on Greenwich Hospital. This relationship is at the core of the Greenwich Hospital’s growth initiatives today. Greenwich Hospital is a cause that Elizabeth Martinez has supported as well. She has been a dedicated volunteer on hospital fundraising event committees.

After his medical training in New York, this second-generation Greenwich resident and former hospital volunteer was drawn to the excellent care and personal touch of physician specialists and staff at Greenwich Hospital. “It was amazing how the hospital staff showed so much attention and care. The nurses were friendly, everyone knew the patient, and they instilled a family atmosphere. At the same time, Greenwich Hospital had new technology and equipment that rivaled the city hospitals.” Greenwich Hospital’s values around patient care became a guiding principle in Dr. Brunetti’s private practice. Whether seen in the hospital, in their home, or in a nursing home, his patients trust and believe in him. They rely on this very hardworking doctor to help them get back to health.

“It is an honor to host the Benefit for Greenwich Hospital, an organization that is always there in our time of need, and to recognize Dr. James Brunetti, a compassionate caregiver who exemplifies excellence and someone I feel blessed to call a dear, personal friend,” said Kathie Lee Gifford.

Diane P. Kelly, president, Greenwich Hospital said, “This year’s Benefit for Greenwich Hospital holds special meaning for our hospital community as we embrace our ability to celebrate together again. Over the past two years, while we focused on helping and healing the hundreds of patients who came to us during the pandemic, Greenwich Hospital remained forward facing – keeping pace with new innovations, technologies and treatments, all while growing key clinical areas and planning for the future healthcare needs of our community.”

“Our honorees, Arthur, Liz and Jim have truly been partners over the years in the growth and success of Greenwich Hospital – we are delighted to have the opportunity to celebrate them, and to celebrate our community’s unwavering commitment to our hospital,” said Kelly.
