Sponsored by the Greenwich United Way, the Transportation Association of Greenwich (TAG), and the Greenwich Safe Rides board, Safe Rides is a community outreach program providing teens with anonymous and free rides home on weekends.

The Town-vetted initiative is fueled by volunteer teens, who answer phones and manage dispatching. Each vehicle has a trained driver and two students who, under the supervision of trained TAG personnel, take calls and assist with navigation.

Outside the Junior League’s headquarters, a group that included members of the Selectman’s Youth Commission gathered to celebrate the JLG’s donation of $5,000 to restore Safe Rides. Safe Rides strives to ensure no underage drunk drivers inflict damage on the Town of Greenwich’s roads. The program remains an integral part of the Greenwich community to this day.
