Greenwich is gearing up for Household Hazardous Waste Day on Saturday May 2, from 8:00am to 1:00pm in the Island Beach Parking lot.
According to Patrick Collins, superintendent of Holly Hill Resource Recovery Facility, about 600 vehicles typically come to the event over the course of the day, including Greenwich residents and those of participating towns. No commercial loads will be accepted.
Mr. Collins shared some tips. First, he said it is not necessary to arrive first thing in the morning because the process moves smoothly throughout the day.

Second, he asked that Greenwich residents display their Holly Hill permit or bring their driver’s license to facilitate their wait time in the vehicle queue. The reason is the town has reciprocal arrangements with other towns, and the non-Greenwich residents in reciprocal towns are eligible to participate but are processed differently.
Clean Harbors, a company that provides comprehensive hazardous and non-hazardous waste management service, will again have staff on site to accept materials.
What will be accepted? Hazardous materials and all types of paint – latex, oil and acrylic.
“We ask people to be patient, stay in your vehicles and listen for directions so we can keep everyone safe including the folks working on the ground,” Collins said. “We ask people to be aware of their surroundings.”
