Homecoming Spirit Week is a time-honored tradition for high schools all over America to showcase their school spirit through a fun week of events and activities, and Greenwich High School is no exception.
The week kicked off with the annual Homecoming Dance on the night of Saturday, October 7. Unlike years past, it was held in the gym, as opposed to the Student Center.
The school festivities commenced on Monday, October 9, with “PJ Day.”
Much of the student body came to school sporting their favorite pajamas. Many students look forward to this day as one in which they can go to school in their pajamas while not looking socially unacceptable.
Day 2 of Spirit Week was International Day, which saw GHS students dressed extravagantly to represent their ethnic backgrounds. From Brazil to Italy to Uganda to Japan, countless countries were represented that day.
Spirit Week took a quick hiatus on Wednesday the 11th so that 9th-11th graders could take the PSAT, but resumed the following day with Senior Dress Up Day.
Of all of the Homecoming Week festivities, Senior Dress Up Day is by far one of the most anticipated.
On this day, GHS seniors dress up in crazy costumes, and the rest of the school gets to enjoy the wackiness.
This year there were many out-there costumes – groups of Charlie’s Angels, Guy Fieris, Marios, and more ran amok at GHS.
Day 5 of Spirit Week was the Pep Rally on Friday, October 13.
GHS students and faculty, all dressed in red and white, reported to the Cardinal Stadium for an hour of school spirit – including recognition of this year’s homecoming court and performances by the varsity cheerleaders and dance teams.
Finally, Spirit Week came to an end on Saturday the 14th with the annual homecoming football game, this year against Darien High School.
GHS scored a 30-14 win, and many loyal GHS students came to watch the game, despite the inclement weather.
As a whole, GHS students had a lot of fun with this year’s Homecoming Spirit Week and many are looking forward to next year already.
