Greenwich Boys & Girls Club Closes until Jan 3, 2022

On Tuesday the Boys and Girls Club of Greenwich posted a notice to families on their website saying the club’s would close as of Wednesday, Dec 22. The club’s policy is to follow the emergency closing procedures of Greenwich Public Schools.

On Tuesday, Greenwich Schools Superintendent Dr. Toni Jones announced a spike in 114 cases across the district since Monday, mostly at Greenwich High School.

Jones said due to the rapid rise in Covid cases, a decision was made to close Greenwich High School beginning Wednesday, Dec 22, effectively December recess three days early. (The district is on recess from Dec 24 through Dec 31.)

“We rely heavily on high school students who are employed as after-school staff, and we cannot operate safely without these individuals,” said club CEO Cristina Vittoria. “The safety of our members and staff is our main priority, and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this closure brings your family.”

Vittoria said the club intended to re-open on Monday, January 3, if Greenwich Public Schools choose to offer in-person instruction.
