The setting was Greenwich Catholic School’s gymnasium. The players were team Ostriker and Team Barefoot. The competition was intense. It was the final game for the summer league of the Greenwich Basketball Association (GBA), which ran throughout the month of July.
Of the ten teams, each comprised of ten players, Team Ostriker and Team Barefoot were the two to make it to the top.
The winning Team Barefoot included Colin Barefoot, Jesse Adelberg, Max Barefoot, Packy Hanrahan, Patrick Santini, Brendan Santini, Ben Steinman, Slater Jones, Jack Doyle and Ken Dorian.
Tony Pignataro, president of GBA, recruited nephew Matt Pignataro to keep the book during games. With the help of Kayla Kerendian, Matt kept score and distributed t-shirts to the winning team at the end of the championship.
“This is the first time we are doing it in the summer,” Matt said, adding that the summer league players ranged in age from rising high school seniors through age 24.
