Billed as the perfect way to start a mid-summer weekend, the Greenwich Road Runners delivered up the most perfect Saturday morning for their One-Mile Fun Run at 8:00am and a 5K Race at 8:30am.
With Long Island Sound shimmering in the background, sun bright but early morning heat and humidity at bay, about 250 participants of all ages flocked to Tod’s Point.
The “Summer at the Point” event’s main sponsor was First County Bank. Other event sponsors and donors included Elite Health Services, Costco, Whole Foods and OG Social Club.
The race benefits local charitable organizations including Greenwich Parks & Recreation Foundation Youth Scholarship Fund.
The event was the second in the 2022 series of three races organized by the Greenwich Road Runners.
The third event will be a Holiday Fun Run in early December.
Jack Pinho, from Norwalk, was the fastest runner in the 5K, with a time of 15 minutes and six seconds. Pinho said he was pleased with his time, but that was not his best, having previously run a 5K in just 14 minutes and 22 seconds.
Greenwich Road Runners is a community-based running group started in 2015 by a small group of runners just looking for people to run with. The group has since blossomed into an over 75-member 501c3 organization affiliated with the Road Runners Club of America. Their mission has always been to provide a fun community-based running organization for everyone from the first-time runner to the veteran marathoner. The group now hosts multiple group runs a week throughout the Greenwich community.
