Andrew Augustus deRosa, Jr., “Drew II,” passed away peacefully on Monday, October 9, in his home surrounded by love.
Drew is survived by the love of his life, Joe Rapillo; his devoted mother, Robyn Hutchins Murphy and her husband Charles F. Murphy III; father Andrew Augustus deRosa Sr., his girlfriend Doris Gaanderse; brother and best friend, Philip Coleman deRosa and his wife, Theodora; sister, Samantha Kathleen Murphy; nephew, Corey Kenneth deRosa; aunts, uncles, and cousins in Virginia where he spent many summers; and a sea of friends whom he also considered his family. Drew was predeceased by maternal grandmother, Norma Tibbs Blue; maternal grandfather, W. H. Hutchins; paternal grandparents, Philip and Alice deRosa; and uncle, Mark Hutchins.
Drew always lived life to the fullest. He is known to everyone for his incredible sense of humor and his natural gifts in the kitchen, which allowed him to always feed friends and family. He loved the beach, the sun, and the snow, boating, and holidays with family and friends. He planned weddings, organized birthday parties, and made all occasions special. From late nights to early mornings, he was always right by his phone ready to answer anyone’s call. This kind, gentle man, with a love for all in his life, made everyone feel loved and accepted.
Visiting hours are planned for Saturday, October 14 from 2:00pm – 6:00pm at Gallagher’s Funeral Home at 31 Arch Street in Greenwich, Connecticut. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Connecticut Humane Society in Westport.
A celebration of Drew’s life will be held on October 28 at 2:00pm at the Greenfield Hill Congregational Church, 1045 Old Academy Road, Fairfield, CT. A reception with family and friends will follow.
