National Voter Registration Day is Sept 28

September 28, 2021, is National Voter Registration Day. This is a nonpartisan civic holiday celebrating our democracy. Since it was first observed in 2012, nearly 4.5 million voters have registered to vote on this day. According to U.S. Census data from 2020, as many as 1 in 4 eligible Americans are not registered to vote.

Since 2017, the LWV Greenwich has marked National Voter Registration Day with community-wide voter registration activities.

This year, the LWV Greenwich is partnering with several local organizations to support voter registration:

Office of the First Selectman
YMCA Greenwich
YWCA Greenwich
Newcomers Club of Greenwich
Greenwich Association of Realtors
Greenwich Library
Boys and Girls Club Greenwich
Neighbor to Neighbor

…And, others to be confirmed!

Sandy Waters, President of the LWV Greenwich, said, “This year our voter registration effort is more important than ever as there are so many new residents due to the pandemic. It’s important that these Newcomers begin to understand how elections work in Greenwich and how their participation in the political process can impact our community and our lives together.”

Information, and links to voter registration, registration confirmation and absentee ballot requests are available.

In addition to email outreach to member-based organizations, the LWV Greenwich is working with Greenwich High School to organize a voter registration application drop to all senior home rooms and students will create an informational video to promote registration.

As an added benefit, the Town’s Registrars of Voters will host an informational session, “How to Vote in Greenwich Municipal Elections,” on September 28 at 1:00pm.

During this 30-40- minute program, Registrars Mary Hegarty & Fred De Caro III will address the process by which voters participate in local democracy.

They will clarify the role of voters in deciding who leads the town. Attendees will learn about who serves on and chairs the Board of Estimation & Taxation, Board of Education and Representative Town Meeting.

Every year, millions of Americans find themselves unable to vote because they miss a registration
deadline, don’t update their registration, or aren’t sure how to register. The LWV Greenwich participates
in National Voter Registration Day to help make sure everyone has the opportunity to vote.

As a reminder the deadline to register to vote in CT is:
In Person: Connecticut has Election Day Registration on Election Day.
