Eversource: Pet Pantry Was Notified of Our Railroad Ave Plans in 2013

Screen Shot 2015-03-11 at 1.33.52 PMThe following statement was provided to Greenwich Free Press from Eversource spokesperson Frank Poirot on March 11:

As an electric energy company, it is crucial that we plan for the future needs of our customers by being mindful of how we will expand our system when the time comes.  That’s why in 1971, we first identified the location at 290 Railroad Avenue as a potential substation site and purchased the lease on the property.

While we understand relocating may be difficult (or inconvenient) for the Pet Pantry, it is important to note, when we subleased the property to them there was a clear understanding by all parties that at some point in the future the property would be developed into a substation and an important part of our electric system.

We notified Pet Pantry in October 2013 with a two year, advanced notice of our intent for the property.  If approved by state regulators, the proposal calls for breaking ground on the substation next year with completion set for late 2017.
