Sweet Notes in Glenville, Offering Candy & Ice Cream

While all of western Greenwich seems to be holding their breath waiting for news of a supermarket might take the former Glenville Stop & Shop space, the future of the former post office building is coming into view.

The transformation of the building into four retail spaces has been in the works for a decade. The landlord was recently approved by the Greenwich Planning & Zoning Commission for a zoning change that made way for an additional 61 parking spaces, for a total of 179. Signage has been up or the Green & Tonic several months.

And now, a candy and ice cream shop is set to open later this month, in plenty of time for Valentine’s Day.

Sweet Notes is the vision of Greenwich resident Nicole Shalette, who will offer candy, ice cream, milk shakes, sundaes, gift baskets and, to warm up this winter, chocolate fondue and campfire s’mores.

The shop is bright and cheerful, with a wall of windows along the front and festive paper lanterns hanging from the ceiling. Ms Shalette, who moved to Greenwich from New York City and who has two young sons of her own, said she absolutely loves living in Greenwich with its community feeling.

“It’s the perfect mix of the small town, but with sophisticated offerings,” said Shalette, a breast cancer survivor. “I was able to find so many resources and great care. That led to why I wanted to open this shop for kids and families to enjoy.”

“I envisioned a place that would elicit a happy feeling as soon as you walk in the door. I want to be a part of how this community celebrates – come and treat yourself.”

Candy Salads, Candy Charcuterie Boards, Gift Baskets, Chocolate Fondue

“We’ll offer candy salads – it’s like the idea behind Chop’t,” Shalette explained. “Kids can choose their candy and have it served in salad bowls.”

Of course people of all ages love candy, and there are adult flavored gummy bears, including bourbon and champagne.

Eat your heart out Willy Wonka, Sweet Notes will offer “candy charcuterie boards,” a novel concept, ideal for gifts, parties and special events like Super Bowl gatherings in February.

Thinking even bigger, Shalette said she can set up an entire “candy table” at a party or fundraiser. Beyond that, the space in Glenville is big enough to host birthday parties or even small groups to share chocolate fondue!

“It’s the perfect cold weather warming up treat,” she said.

There are also gift baskets that are ideal for game nights or family movie nights.

Emack & Bolio’s Ice Cream

Shalette will feature ice cream from Emack & Bolio’s ice cream, who first opened in Boston in 1975 and now has locations around the world.

“They’re a super premium ice cream. People line up for it,” Shalette said. “They’re in the Hamptons, Upper East Side and Cape Cod. And now they’ll be in Greenwich.”

“Any way you can think of to treat yourself, we are here to help,” Shalette said.

Diane Roth from Allied Property Group, who leased the space, said, “Sweet Note will be a fun and tasty addition to Glenville. I can’t wait to buy their candy charcuterie board. That’s the perfect housewarming or party gift.”

Sweet Notes, located at 21 Glen Ridge Road, will announce their grand opening shortly. In the meantime, find them on Instagram.
