Angland, Fedeli: RTC Response to ‘Fazio PACgate’ is Unbelievable

Letter to the editor from Greenwich DTC chair Joe Angland and Josh Fedeli, Chairman of the Stamford Democratic City Committee

The response by the Greenwich Republican Town Committee to the “Fazio PACgate” can be summed up in one word: Unbelievable.

It is unbelievable that RTC Chair Quigley would:

• Scoff at the fact that Fazio would benefit from the FazioPAC twitter account. Right now, 80% of Republicans support Trump and along with that, the bigotry, racism and misogyny that are the hallmarks of his administration’s divisive and destructive policies and campaign strategy. Mr. Quigley knows, as do Trump and his acolytes, that this type of language invigorates Trump Republicans.

• Resort to misogynistic tropes and condescension when referring to a female candidate for office. This “mansplaining” and demeaning language has no place in a political campaign, public discourse, or our communities, but continues to be a go-to strategy for Trump and Trump Republicans when faced with an intelligent, powerful, hardworking, results-driven, empathetic, and yes, ambitious, woman.

• Defend the lack of accountability of the Fazio campaign. This repulsive FazioPAC twitter account, despite having just four followers, was known to candidate Fazio for two weeks. As party chairs, it is beyond belief that an issue this explosive would be held in secret by a campaign. If in fact Fazio did not alert his party chair to its existence, one has to wonder why. Fazio’s failure to denounce the despicable language used in the account, publicly disavow the account and its content, and reject any affiliation with his campaign when he became aware of its existence tells you everything you need to know about the representative he will be if elected to serve the 36th Senate District.

• Fail to denounce the abhorrent language used in the FazioPAC tweets. Instead, Mr. Quigley attempts to deflect blame for this explosive issue, another familiar and transparent Trump strategy, on Senator Kasser.
Silence in the face of hateful, blatant, and targeted bigotry, racism, and misogyny can only be interpreted as agreement. If the Republican Party is truly disgusted, as we are, by the language used in this FazioPAC twitter account then they should stand with us in denouncing it, calling for the owner of the account to take it down and demanding an end to this type of behavior.
