Byram resident Gabriel Cid, 44, was discharged form Greenwich Hospital on Monday after spending 30 days in the Intensive Care Unit and being connected to a ventilator for 21 days.
He was distinguished by being the 2,500th COVID-19 recovered patient discharged from the Yale New Haven Health System to a rehabilitation center for physical therapy.
At home on Thursday, Mr. Cid, aka “Cidman,” was celebrated by friends, neighbors and family, along with Greenwich Police and Greenwich Fire Dept with a car parade featuring home made signs and confetti.
Mr. Cid’s neighbor Liz Eckert said, “Gabe is one of the nicest, most genuine people I’ve had the pleasure to know. His family is so close and they love him so much.”
“It was terrifying for friends and neighbors, but I can’t imagine what his family was going through,” she added. “My take away is never underestimate the power of prayer and love!”
Mr. Cid’s family had not been able to visit with him in person in weeks, though he was able to connect via Zoom and Facetime.
Nothing matched the sight of him with his overjoyed family, and the smiles of those who celebrated him from the safe distance of their cars on Thursday. Welcome home.
