Shredding Volunteers Ready to Celebrate Earth Day in Greenwich

Shredding Volunteers Ready to Celebrate Earth Day in Greenwich Shredding Day is Saturday, April 27. Greenwich residents can shred between 9:30am and 12 noon at Island Beach parking lot.

Fee is $2 per box. Bring papers in a box or rigid container about 12x18x12.  Maximum 5 boxes per car. Paper in bags will not be accepted.

Please keep boxes to a minimal weight so volunteers can lift easily. Keep in mind volunteers from our community will be lifting and dumping well over 1,000 boxes of paper in just a few hours. Your rigid container will be emptied and returned.

We do the heavy lifting with help from Boys &Girls Club volunteers, but it’s your job to remove non-sensitive paper, cardboard, binders, metal clips etc before shredding.

Shredding is an Earth Day event promoting “Reduce Re-Use Recycle” in our community. All paper shreds will be recycled into new paper products. At the 2018 shredding day nearly 10 tons of paper were shredded, the equivalent of about 165 trees.

Event is sponsored by The First Bank of Greenwich with branches in Cos Cob, Stamford and Port Chester for all your banking needs, and Santaguida Sanitation of Cos Cob who can take care of your trash hauling, recycling and dumpster rentals. Shredding day could not happen without their generous support.

To add to the Earth Day fun, Orvis Greenwich will provide dog treats for residents who bring their dog to shredding while supply lasts, or stop in at Orvis with your dog, 107 Greenwich Avenue.

Orvis donates 5% of pre-tax profits to protecting nature. Coupons for B.GOOD health-conscious fast-food favorites at 342 Greenwich Avenue will be available. And Sam Bridge Nursery will provide coupons for shrubs and bushes at their nursery & greenhouse, 437 North Street.

And, an opportunity to “Reduce Re-Use Recycle” – When you have a minute, check your drawers and closets for un-opened toiletries you will not use. Drop off un-opened toiletries with your shredding – toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, deodorant, shampoo etc – any size including samples. Neighbor to Neighbor will distribute within our community.

Event is organized by Greenwich Green & Clean and Greenwich Recycling Advisory Board together with many committed volunteers. Please remember to thank the volunteers and sponsors.
