In Our Own Voice: Living with Mental Illness

People with mental health conditions share their powerful personal stories, shattering stereotypes and dispelling stigma. This presentation offers hope that recovery is possible. In Our Own Voice: Living with Mental Illness changes attitudes, assumptions, and stereotypes by describing the reality of living with mental illness. The event will take place from 7:30-8:30pm on Thursday, October 8 at the Tully Health Center, Conference room B, 32 Strawberry Hill Ct, Stamford, CT.

Hear from people who have struggled with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, major depression, and other severe mental illnesses, and are now role models of hope and recovery.

This presentation offers:

* A first-hand account of what it’s like to live with a mental illness. Presenters humanize this misunderstood topic by demonstrating that it’s possible—and common—to live well with mental illness.

* A chance to ask the presenters questions, which allows for a deeper understanding of mental health conditions and dispels stereotypes and misconceptions.

* The understanding that every person with a mental illness can hope for a bright future.

Hosted by the Southwest CT affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), the presentation is free and open to the public. Call 203 -388-1603 for information. www.namisouthwestct.com
