In all, this year’s event raised nearly $45,000 to support Long Island Sound education programs.
Launching from Cove Island Park in Stamford and Weed Beach in Darien, participants navigated a four-mile route ending at Boccuzzi Park in Stamford, where they enjoyed a celebratory lunch and beachside music.
The event, designed to be inclusive for kayakers and paddleboarders of all skill levels, was an enriching and safe experience with kayak guides and support boats ensuring participants’ safety throughout.
“The Flotilla is all about coming together to protect the Sound. I’d like to think that by connecting people to this beautiful natural resource in such a fun and memorable way, people will realize it’s all our responsibility to protect it,” said Leigh Shemitz, SoundWaters president in a release.
Since its inception in 2017, the annual Flotilla has raised more than $300,000.
