The Greenwich Youth Cheerleading League (GYCL) will host its annual car wash fundraiser this Saturday, September 19 from 9:00am to 2:00pm at New Lebanon School at 25 Mead Avenue, Greenwich, CT 06830.

This event supports athletes of all five teams in the league, including the Banc Raiders, Cos Cob Crushers, Glenville Mavericks, North Mianus Bulldogs, and Putnam Generals. Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased in advance or on site by cash, check or Venmo.

The Greenwich Youth Cheerleading League (GYCL), formed in 2004, operates as an entity alongside the Gateway/Greenwich Youth Football League (GYFL).

Participation in the GYCL program provides girls and boys in 3rd through 8th grade the opportunity to perform in an organized, supervised and safe environment.

At the heart of the program, GYCL emphasizes safety, fun for all and encourages the development of teamwork and fundamental skills.

The GYCL is a town-wide recreation program for Greenwich residents or students attending private school within Greenwich and is not affiliated with Greenwich elementary or middle schools (public or private).

The GYCL operates under strict guidelines for the health and safety of its cheerleaders. To promote GYCL’s ideals of safety and enjoyment for all in an organized and supervised environment, the GYCL Board mandates that all coaches are CPR, First Aid and AED Certified.

In addition, all coaches must complete an extensive concussion training certification. All head coaches are AACCA certified. In addition, head coaches must be a minimum of 21 years of age, assistant coaches must be a minimum of 18 years of age and junior coaches must be at least 14 years of age with previous cheerleading experience.
