The Greenwich Police Department arrested two juveniles early Thursday morning following an investigation into the theft of a motor vehicle from a residence in north Greenwich.
Police said that at 12:29am, officers responded to the area after a resident reported observing several individuals near vehicles parked in a neighbor’s driveway. The resident then observed a white Jeep Grand Cherokee leave the driveway and immediately contacted police.
Responding officers located the stolen Jeep traveling in the area of North Maple Avenue along with a Honda HR-V.
Officers attempted to stop the vehicles. However, both continued northbound onto Lake Avenue. Officers successfully deployed a tire deflation device on the Honda. The occupant continued to drive the vehicle while it had flat tires, and as it attempted to negotiate a curve in the roadway it left the roadway and struck a utility pole. The occupants of the Honda fled the area on foot. Officers established a perimeter and conducted a search of the surrounding area, with assistance from the Greenwich Police Department’s drone and K-9 Unit.
Two juveniles were subsequently located and taken into custody without further incident. During the investigation, officers determined that the Honda had also been stolen from Bethel, Connecticut.
Officers additionally recovered identification associated with a separate theft in Newtown, Connecticut.

Engaging Police in a Pursuit – C.G.S. 14-223(b)
Evading Responsibility – C.G.S. 14-224(b)(3)
Theft of a Motor Vehicle – C.G.S. 53a-119c
Interfering with an Officer – C.G.S. 53a-167a
Criminal Trover – C.G.S. 53a-126a
The second juvenile was charged with:
Conspiracy to Commit Theft of a Motor Vehicle – C.G.S. 53a-48 / 53a-119c
Interfering with an Officer – C.G.S. 53a-167a
Criminal Trover – C.G.S. 53a-126a
Both were issued juvenile summonses.
The Greenwich Police Department reminds residents to take simple precautions to help reduce opportunities for vehicle theft. Residents should lock their vehicles every time they are left unattended, remove keys and key fobs from vehicles, and avoid leaving valuables in plain view.
