Greenwich Alliance Day Kicks Off the Greenwich Alliance for Education’s 20th Anniversary

On September 25, “Greenwich Alliance Day” was the official kick off to the Greenwich Alliance for Education’s 20th anniversary year as the town’s education foundation for the public schools.

“This day had many parts, and with the help of Alliance staff and board members, AVID Alumni,  PTA volunteers, Greenwich Public Schools administrators, art teachers, and school staff, it all came together and

Upper Crust Bagel Company joined the celebration by baking 98 dozen bagels as a thank you from the Greenwich Alliance to all GPS educators for their 20 year partnership.

At Greenwich High School, First Selectman Fred Camillo marked the occasion with a proclamation. Superintendent Toni Jones emphasized the importance of the Greenwich Alliance to the schools and State Representative Hector Arzeno presented a citation from Greenwich’s Connecticut legislative delegation. New for the 20th Anniversary, the Alliance opened applications for a GHS Student Innovation Grant, inviting high school students to bring forward ideas that could make their school community even better.

A very special part of  Greenwich Alliance Day was a district-wide activity where students created individual pieces of art – flames, cougar fangs, tiles, paw prints, flowers – to name a few – that will become part of a massive mosaic column woven together with the Alliance’s mission and vision. The column will be constructed by artists Michael Manning and Ben Quesnel, the Developing Artist Program, and will represent what it looks like when the community comes together for children. The Greenwich Alliance for Education was founded in 2006 by residents who saw an opportunity to do more for our public school students.

With the support of donors, educators, families and community partners, the Alliance has since invested $6.9 million in the arts, STEM, academic enrichment, college and career readiness, mental health and wellness, and scholarships.
