PHOTOS: Beautiful Day for Adopt-A-Dog’s Howl & Prowl

After Adopt A Dog’s Puttin’ on the Dog event was rained out recently, their Howl & Prowl event on Sunday benefited from clear, sunny skies and mild temps in Roger Sherman Baldwin Park.

Throughout the event volunteers circulated dogs available for adoption, including Gemma and Gunner, a bonded pair whose owner could no longer care for them. Martha Lane also won a lot of hearts. She is a sweet Beagle-Lab mix from North Carolina who is about 2 years old. Volunteers described her as total lap dog who loves to snuggle. Martha Lane had three puppies (now three months old) who are available for adoption through Adopt a Dog. We also met Charlotte, one of a group of Foxhounds originally from Virginia. She is sweet and gentle, about 5 years old.

The puppy pens were also popular spots in the park where Beagle pups and mixed breeds snuggled and napped.

There were also rescue groups like Hazel’s House who introduced the handsome “Hank” to potential adopters. Hank was pulled from NYACC and has a wonderful disposition despite a rough start in life. Margee and Frenchie – a mother and her daughter – are two very sweet, easy-going dogs also looking for a family to call their own.

The highlight of the event was the costume contest, and families got into the Halloween spirit, coming up with creative get-ups ranging from the Addams Family characters to Dolly Parton, and from a “hot dog” and condiments to day at the beach!

The event was free to attend, but donations are appreciated. Since their main fundraiser, Puttin’ on the Dog, was cancelled, consider making a donation to support their important work.

There will be another chance to meet adoptable dogs next weekend. Adopt A Dog will bring dogs to town hall on Oct 31 from 11:00am to 4:00pm. (Voting is from 10:00am to 6:00pm.)

People can pet the dogs and there will be be puppy pens and tablets for those interested filling out an application to adopt a dog.

Adopt A Dog has saved, socialized and placed abandoned and unwanted dogs into loving, permanent homes since 1981.
