Old Greenwich School principal Jen Bencivengo and Assistant Principal Caitlin Keane gathered incoming students in the school’s front plaza for a back-to-school reading hour on Thursday.
The event was open to all, but with the start of school just a week away, the event was a nice way to introduce new students to the school and meet the principal and assistant principal in an informal setting.
“We’re excited for the beginning of the school year,” Ms Bencivengo said. “To use a phrase superintendent Dr. Toni Jones coined, this is going to be a joyful year, full of books and reading and innovation.”

Ms. Bencivengo read from one of her favorite books, Say Something by Peter H Reynolds, where a wonderful piece of advice was, “If you see an injustice, say something.”
Some of the books the school leaders read included Don’t Blink, by Amy Krouse Rosenthal, Be Kind by Pat Zietlow Miller, Because by Mo Willems, School’s First Day of School by Adam Rex, We Don’t eat Our Classmates by Ryan T Higgins, and The Most Magnificent Thing by Ashley Spires.
