Rashamel Jones was named the Head Girls Basketball Coach by Greenwich High School Athletic Director Gus Lindine. Jones is replacing Chrys Hernandez, who resigned at the end of last season after many years as head coach of the Cardinals.
Rashamel has been diverse in his many experiences. For the past three seasons, he has been an Assistant Basketball Coach at University of St Joseph.
Over the years he has coached AAU Programs, given individual or group lessons and organized and supervised basketball camps. Coach Jones has also managed a youth sports facility, while coaching many club and youth teams.
As a student-athlete at Trinity High School, Jones was named All FCIAC in his sophomore, junior and senior seasons and led the Crusaders to an FCIAC Championship in 1993. He was also named the 1995 Connecticut Gatorade Player of the Year. Rashamel continued his athletic career at the University of Connecticut. He was captain of UConn’s first ever NCAA National Championship Team in 1999 and enjoyed winning the Big East Championship three times as a Huskie. After his collegiate playing days. Rash was offered a contract overseas to play basketball in Europe. He enjoyed a professional career in the European Basketball League, playing in England, Italy and Spain.
Jones currently is the Director of Programming at the Orcutt Boys and Girls Club in Bridgeport. His experiences also include Child Service Worker for Department of Children and Families and Child Protective Specialist with Administration for Children’s Services.
He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of Connecticut.
