Greenwich Academy Sophomore Wins 2015 US National Top Female Boat for Sailing in the International 420 Class

Screen Shot 2016-01-12 at 4.57.44 PMAshton Borcherding, a high school sophomore at Greenwich Academy, sailed with helmsman Kathryn Hall, a high school junior at Agnes Irwin School, and placed First Female Boat at the 2015 National I-420 Championship.

Borcherding has also held US National Top Female Crew for two consecutive years.  Sailors from all over the country competed during the 4-day qualifying regatta held in Coconut Grove, Florida. Team Borcherding / Hall qualified to go on to 2016 I420 World Championships this July in San Remo, Italy.

Team Borcherding / Hall also placed Top Female Boat and 3rd overall at the 2015 Atlantic Coast I-420 Championship held in Greenwich, CT.   Ashton Borcherding has earned a position on the United States International Sailing Team competing in Germany, Bulgaria, and most recently in Japan representing Team USA where she placed 12th overall at the I-420 World Championships.

Ashton is a starting skipper for Greenwich Academy’s Sailing Team and sails year-round with LISOT (Long Island Youth Sailing Team).  She is also a member of Belle Haven Club’s Jr. Sailing Program and previously served as Junior Commodore.
