Two Port Chester Police Officers Injured in Violent Struggle with Shoplifting Suspect

On Saturday two Port Chester, NY police officers were injured after taking a shoplifting suspect into custody.

In a post on the department’s Facebook page they described a violent struggle that ensued when a 28-year-old man was informed he was under arrest.

The struggle caused numerous displays to be damaged, and in the course of the struggle one officer was head-butted by the suspect. The officer suffered a substantial hematoma above his eye which required medical attention. The other officer suffered an injury to the hand.

Further, police said subsequent to his arrest, the suspect, whose identity they did not release, damaged the holding cell and adjacent areas by flooding the area.

He was arraigned and remanded to the County Jail.

“There is an increasing trend with suspects traveling into the area to commit crimes such as the above,” Police said in their post. “We have increased Police presence in the known areas and continue to make arrests. Unfortunately, actions like this suspects,are occurring more often and it is concerning.”

On Facebook there were dozens of comments including some finger pointing.

One comment said the rash of shoplifting was the fault of “Far left liberal lawmakers and DAs. Remember this come November.

A reply said, “far right congress and radical far right media has brainwashed people into thinking it ok to disrespect authority and police – you bet we’ll remember come November.”
