America’s Boating Club of Greenwich to Hold Safe Boating Courses

The America’s Boating Club of Greenwich – formerly Greenwich Sail & Power Squadron – is dedicated to boating education, great group activities, and community service.

Expert instructors will hold the next safe boating courses on Saturday, May 5 and Saturday, June 9 at Greenwich Police Headquarters, 11 Bruce Place on Saturday, May 5, 2018 and Saturday June 9, 2018. Registration begins at 8:30am and courses are expect to tend by 4:30pm.

Each year the statistics on boating accidents and fatalities tell the same story about the thousands of accidents nationwide. The four most striking similarities are:

– Most accidents involve open boats 24-foot and under

– Over 85% of boating deaths are due to drowning

– Over 85% of drowning victims were not wearing life jackets

– Over 80% of boating fatalities involved those who had not taken a safe boating class

The Squadron believes that boater education will lead to decreased boating-related injuries and fatalities nationwide.

The cost is $80 per student and includes a textbook, coffee and sandwich lunch.
