The Children’s School welcomes renowned language and literacy specialist Dr. Lydia Soifer for a workshop designed for parent. Join us on Wednesday, April 9, at 7:00pm for “Tell Me a Story: Oral & Written Narrative Development in Young Children.”
In this engaging and informative session, Dr. Soifer will explore the fascinating journey of how children learn to listen, speak, read, and write—and how their growing sense of narrative and storytelling plays a vital role in that development.
With warmth, humor, and practical insights, she will share strategies parents can use at home to nurture their child’s ability to recount experiences, tell stories, and build expressive communication skills—all of which lay the foundation for future success with literacy and life skills.
We all tell stories—and so do children. Storytelling is not just play; it’s a powerful tool for language growth and emotional expression. Dr. Soifer will explain how oral and written narrative skills develop in young children, offering real-world examples that demonstrate how parents can support storytelling and language growth at home.
She will also provide guidance on recognizing when a child’s narratives may indicate language challenges, helping parents identify areas where additional support could be beneficial.
Whether you’re eager to boost your child’s storytelling abilities or curious about early literacy development, this workshop offers invaluable insights and practical takeaways.
Dr. Soifer is a nationally recognized language pathologist with nearly 50 years of experience in clinical and private practice and university teaching. She continues to provide educational consultation and advocacy services for families, collaborating with schools and professionals to support children’s learning and communication needs.
