The Junior League of Greenwich will host their first ever Mahjong Derby fundraiser to benefit Positively Me!, a free, interactive, confidence-building, and emotional intelligence program for third-grade girls.
The JLG Mahjong Derby will take place on Thursday, April 30 from 6:00-8:00pm at the Junior League of Greenwich, 231 East Putnam Avenue. Everything will be supplied, or feel free to come in foursomes and bring tiles and mats. Don’t forget to don a favorite Kentucky Derby-style hat while playing and enjoying this fundraising celebration where all the proceeds go to Positively Me!.
“Mahjong has been experiencing such a massive surge in popularity because of its relaxing yet exciting social and mental interaction and we can’t wait to have fun with you in our first ever fundraiser for Positively Me!,” said Sammie Jacobs, president of the Junior League of Greenwich. “We just finished the 18th year of Positively Me! to consistent rave reviews and success and we’re already looking forward to the next group of 3rd graders to take part in 2027!”
The Positively Me! 2-day event through the JLG is designed for girls at a pivotal stage of development.
Through hands-on activities, the girls explore self-esteem, communication, friendship, and how to handle challenging situations all while forming meaningful connections with their peers. It helps participants build self-confidence, learn to express themselves, make thoughtful decisions, and navigate peer relationships — all in a supportive, engaging, and fun environment.
If it’s been a while since you’ve played Mahjong, the JLG Mahjong Refresher Course is the perfect way to get back into the game. Hosted by the Rack & Rally Mahjong Society, the refresher will take place Thursday, April 23 from 7–9:00pm at the JLG. Tickets for both events can be found at jlgreenwich.org.
