Greenwich Art Society Workshop: Conserving Paper

The Greenwich Art Society is offering a one day workshop led by Paper Conservator, Ann Baldwin on Sunday, April  27, 1:00-5:00pm. This is a hands-on workshop is for artists and collectors who want to learn best museum practices for display of works of art on paper, including water colors, pastels, drawings and prints. Participants will practice hinging and mounting artwork on paper using current and time-tested conservation methods and archival matting and framing techniques will be demonstrated. The workshop is geared towards artists preparing works on paper for exhibition, this class will introduce students to archival principals, and preservation products available on the market. Topics covered include:

Preparation and use of reversible adhesives
Questions you should ask your picture framer so that works are preserved and not damaged through mistakes
Glazing options for friable media such as pastels and non-tradition installation techniques, such as the use of magnets. Continue Reading →

Tax Season: Outsmarting the IRS Phone and Email Scammers

Greenwich Police are warning residents of IRS tax scammers. The IRS will never call you on the phone about unpaid taxes. In fact, they use regular mail. The recent tax scams, callers will demand a prepaid debit card, wire transfer or a credit card number for payment. If the victim doesn’t comply, the caller threatens to arrest or deport the target, or take away their driver’s license or business. Continue Reading →

UPDATE: Greenwich Town Party Tickets Can Be Purchased at Town Hall

UPDATE, Tuesday, April 15: According to Marni Lane from the Greenwich Town Party, people can now purchase tickets at Greenwich Town Hall, as well as order them online at the Greenwich Town Party website. And, next time you’re in Town Hall, stop by the lobby to pick up one of the cool car magnets they’re giving away with the message, “Display your car magnet proudly to show support for our community. Post a photo on fcebook and Instagram to be entered to win GTP tickets and merchandise. #GTP2014”

A week ago, on April 7, online ticket sales began for the May 24 event. Tiny New York Kitchen: Potato Latkes

Made with matzo meal these Potato Latkes are perfect for Passover or anytime. Serve with applesauce and sour cream. INGREDIENTS

4 Medium Potatoes
1 Peeled & Quartered Yellow Onion
2 Tablespoons Matzo Meal
2 Large Eggs
1/4 Cup Olive Oil
1/2 Teaspoon Kosher Salt
1/2 Teaspoon Freshly Ground Pepper
Apple Sauce
Sour Cream

Enroll Now for Greenwich Police Spring Women’s Self-Defense Class

Greenwich Police are accepting applications for their 2014 Spring women’s self-defense class. The program is open to women between 18 and 55. Classes start May 19, and meet Mondays and Wednesdays in May, and Tuesdays and Thursdays in June, with a graduation ceremony scheduled for Thursday, June 19. Participants, who will be asked to undergo a background inquiry, are asked to choose either the 6:00-7:30 pm or 7:45-9:15pm session. Greenwich residents will receive priority for enrollment. Tiny New York Kitchen: Flourless Peanut Butter Cookies

Great for Passover or anytime especially if you are not into gluten. INGREDIENTS

1 Cup Organic Natural Chunky Peanut Butter
1 Cup Sugar
1 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract
1 Large Egg (Lightly Beaten)

Copper Beech Farm Sells for $120 Million to “The Conservation Institute, LLC”

On Thursday Copper Beech Farm, a 50+ acre waterfront property sold for $120 Million to Conservation Institute LLC, a Connecticut Limited Liability Company with an Atlantic St address in Stamford. The seller was Wyoming Corporation, in care of Fogarty Cohen Selby & Nemiroff LLC of  Old Greenwich. The town conveyance tax was $300,000, and the State conveyance tax was $1,496,000. The property was once owned by the Lauder Greenway family. Harriet Lauder Greenway was the daughter of George Lauder, a partner in Carnegie Steel. Continue Reading →
