Corey Fine had only just taken over ownership last July and remodeled in August when a car crashed through the side of his liquor store on William Street. “I don’t know one person who doesn’t love a delicious grilled cheese sandwich. Make it even better by adding crabmeat to the mix. This delightful treat is perfect for weekend lunches or anytime for that matter. You can also cut it into bit-size pieces and serve it as an appetizer if you’re hosting a July 4th party.” – Victoria Hart Glavin of Tiny New York Kitchen Continue Reading →
Team Greenwich Police rode in the Tri-State Trek to raise money and awareness for Lou Gehrig’s Disease, which took the life of their colleague Roger Petrone. We caught up with Team Greenwich Police at the “Roger Petrone rest stop” at John St and Riversville Rd at 2pm and then in Roger Sherman Baldwin Park at 3pm. We met some inspiring people from Team Good Folks and Team America. We met Steve Saling who was diagnosed with ALS in 2006 but is participating fully in life. What an inspiring event. Patricia Baiardi-Kantorski presented a slideshow on the history of Byram to a sold out house at Byram Shubert Library on Saturday morning. Her narrative covered the original farm homesteads, moved through the mills, foundries and factories of the industrial era, including the importance of the Byram River, and the development of neighborhoods. Developers’ deeds included caveats to prevent shantytowns and unsavory operations. A trolly once passed through Byram from Port Chester connecting via Greenwich Ave to the Post Rd and to Stamford. The presentation included the original New Lebanon School on what is now the William Street parking. It faced Mead Avenue. Continue Reading →

More than 200 swimmers and volunteers are set to participate in the ninth annual Swim Across America Greenwich-Stamford Swim Saturday morning. The Swim will be held on the Greenwich-Stamford border at 96 Cummings Point Road, Stamford, Connecticut, on the shores of the headquarters for the Alliance for Cancer Gene Therapy (ACGT), the beneficiary of this year’s swim and the nation’s only non-profit foundation dedicated exclusively to funding cancer gene therapy research. There are three open water swims at Saturday’s event: a 3-mile swim, a 1.5-mile swim, and a shorter half-mile swim. Swimmers range in age from nine years old to 82 years old and include everyone from amateurs to Olympic athletes. Michele Graham and Lorrie Lorenz, both mothers of teenage cancer survivors, chair this inspirational event. Honorary co-chairs of the Swim Across America Greenwich-Stamford event are Olympic Gold medalist Donna de Varona and her husband John Pinto, John and Cindy Sites, Mary Henry and Howard Rubin, and Arlene and Reuben Mark.
