Updated Aug 4, 4:00pm: Greenwich Police said in a post on Facebook that with the amount of trees and live wires blocking and closing roadways in Town, Shelter in Place is being recommended.
Original story: Aug 4, 3:00pm: Greenwich Police are urging residents to stay off the road unless absolutely necessary.
Across town, Tropical Storm Isaias’ high winds continue to bringing trees down, and multiple cars have been struck by falling limbs. Many of the tree are entangled with power lines.
At abut 2:00pm police announced three lanes were closed in the area of 500 West Putnam Ave, and that most major roads north of Route 1 are not passable due to trees and wires down.
Eversource is reporting multiple power outages in Greenwich.
As of 3:25pm, Eversource reported that in Greenwich 3,812 customers are without power out of 28,236 customers served, which represents 13.50% of customers.
In Stamford 10.35% are without power. In Darien 13.71% are without power.
A tornado watch is in effect until 4pm. The NWS forecasts showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 7pm, then scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly between 7pm and 5am on Wednesday.
The Greenwich Fire Dept tweeted that around 1:30 units on scene on North Street responded to a tree on a car with an occupant inside. They performed and extrication, but in a second tweet said another tree fell blocking units at the scene.
