YMCA Greenwich 1-Mile Swim: Helping Provide Swim Instruction, Water Safety Skills to Kids

Yale’s Liam Bogart, 23, Wins 34th Annual Greenwich Point One Mile Swim The 34th Annual Greenwich Point One Mile Swim was held on Saturday, July 29 at Greenwich Point.

The event was sponsored by The Greenwich Swim Committee and the YMCA of Greenwich.

Proceeds from the One Mile Swim event went to the YMCA of Greenwich’s Annual Fund, helping to provide swim school instruction and critical water safety skills to local children.

“The Greenwich Point One Mile Swim is a great event that brings the Greenwich community together around a shared passion for swimming. With proceeds supporting our swim school scholarship program, assuring that all Greenwich children can learn how to enjoy water safely regardless of financial means, we are grateful for the partnership with the Greenwich Swim Committee” said Matthew Skaarup, CEO of the YMCA of Greenwich.

Yale swimmer, Liam Bogart, 23, placed first with an impressive time of 18:53. Placing inside the overall top ten was the top female swimmer of the day, Kristen Gary, 55, with a time of 21:15.

According to Jon Harnett, Chairman of the Greenwich Swim Committee it’s the wide demographic that makes this event the community staple it has been for 34 years running. “It’s great to see so many swimmers of different ages and ability levels competing. There were collegiate swimmers, tri-athletes, and recreational swimmers who all came out for this event. We’re very pleased with the turnout and feel it was a great success.”
