Mary Raffalini Sorbo, 86

Mary Raffalini Sorbo, 86, of Greenwich passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, June 23, 2022.  Mary was born on February 6, 1936 to the late Thomas and Gertrude (Pennella) Strazza.

Mary graduated from Greenwich High School in 1954 and married Joseph Sorbo on June 17, 1961.  They were married for 56 years.

She worked for Condé Nast, Chancy D’Elia and R.L. Albert & Son, Inc.  After her retirement, she continued to be an active member of the Greenwich community. Mary served as a volunteer for the Greenwich Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Shop for over ten years; and was a life-long, dedicated parishioner of St. Roch’s Church.

Throughout her lifetime, Mary was a member of local softball teams and bowling leagues; she enjoyed cooking, singing, watching movies, and spending time with family–who loved her immeasurably.

Mary is remembered as an amazing mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend, who cared deeply for other people. Embodied by her strong presence, and sharp sense of humor, Mary was an unwavering and dependable force of strength, love, and laughs to those around her, and she will be profoundly missed.

Mary is survived by her sister, Carmela, and her brother, Ralph Strazza; her two daughters, Maria Johnstone (Scott) and Joanne Jackson (Scott); her grandchildren Becca and Scott Johnstone, and Riley, Wesley, and Patrick Jackson; and her many nieces, and nephews.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Sorbo, who passed in 2017; and her siblings Jerry, Rocco, Joseph Strazza and Philomena Roina.

To celebrate her life, a funeral mass will be held at St. Roch’s Church (10 St. Roch Ave., Greenwich, CT), on Friday, July 1, 2022 at 10:00 AM.   Interment will follow at St. Mary’s/Putnam Cemetery, Greenwich.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in Mary’s memory to St. Roch’s Church.
