Did you know that Holly Hill, also known as the dump, averages 32,000 vehicle visits a month?
And, on Saturdays between 7:00am and 12:00 noon alone, the facility averages 1,600 to 1,700 vehicles.
Located at Holly Hill, the Book Swap, operated by wonderful volunteers, operates Fridays and Saturdays from 8:00 until 12:00 noon, weather permitting, and has been extremely busy on Saturday mornings this summer.
Dump supervisor Patrick Collins suggests residents visiting holly Hill on Saturdays will experience less of a queue between 7:00am and 10:30am.
Similarly, the Book Swap volunteers at Holly Hill also suggest visitors arrive early on Saturdays.
Frequently a long queue of cars will form on a Saturday, given how many residents funnel through, with stops at the Goodwill donation center, trash containers, single stream recycling, book swap, and beyond to textile recycling, and finally to food scrap recycling, yard waste, scrap metal and construction debris!
On Wednesday the book swap volunteers posted a message Facebook saying, “The Holly Hill Recycling Center has become extremely busy on Saturday mornings and Greenwich residents have been complaining that visitors to the Book Swap are the cause of very long lines at the entrance to the recycling area. If you plan to come to the Book Swap on Saturdays, please come between 8-10am to try to reduce the congestion.”
