Greenwich First Selectman to Lift Mask Requirement at Town Hall on Feb 18

On Friday, Greenwich First Selectman Fred Camillo announced the mandatory face mask requirement in Town facilities will be lifted effective Friday, February 18.

On that date, face masks will be optional for both visitors and employees.

For those who are uncomfortable in public settings or are immune-compromised, he advises to wear a mask.

Camillo said private businesses and stores will continue to have the option to set their own mask policy, so he advises residents to carry a mask in case they need to use it.

Also, he said reminded residents that the Governor’s face mask requirement for students will remain in effect until February 28. He said it would be up to the school superintendent and Board of Education to decide how to proceed after that date.

Camillo said the downward trend in the number of Covid cases is continuing in Greenwich schools and Greenwich Hospital.

As of today, February 11, Greenwich Hospital was treating 10 Covi-positive patients.

That number was down from 18 patients a week earlier.

The Covid-19 hospitalization rate in the Yale New Haven Health System was 127 patients on Friday.

A week earlier, the system-wide patient count was 235.

Greenwich Public Schools reported a total of 17 cases on Friday among students and service providers.

A week earlier there were 35 cases.

As of February 11, the total number of Covid cases among Greenwich residents since the pandemic began in March 2020 increased to 11,124, with 177 active cases being tracked by Health Department staff.
