Moderate Caucus Members Support Steady Leadership by Governor Lamont

Being a leader requires drive and determination—but being a good leader also requires selflessness and vulnerability. It means putting the needs of the broader community—our State—above all else. Governor Ned Lamont exemplified this kind of leadership throughout the 2025 legislative session, from producing his fourth consecutive balanced budget to making historic investments in childcare, special education and most recently, by vetoing two controversial bills.

Under Governor Lamont’s leadership, Connecticut remains in strong fiscal health, earning continued confidence from national credit agencies and setting a standard among our neighboring states. While others have resorted to tax hikes and cuts to fund essential services, our latest biennial budget strengthens the Rainy-Day Fund, pays down $1 billion in pension debt, and launches a $250 million childcare initiative that will provide free or low-cost care to thousands of families for years to come.

Even with the budget as a major focus, the session saw robust debate on hundreds of bills. Key issues included rising energy costs, nonprofit funding, homelessness, brownfield redevelopment, special education, and safety measures for all our residents. Each received thoughtful attention and resulted in meaningful legislation. Balancing so many priorities is never easy, but Governor Lamont has consistently approached the work with grace and a deep sense of
responsibility to all residents.

In politics, controversy is inevitable. Difficult issues spark passionate debate, occasional breaks from party lines, and sometimes hard feelings. That’s okay—disagreement is a natural part of democracy, as long as we respect each other’s perspectives. Regardless of where one stands, progress depends on compromise and practical solutions.

While legislators are elected to represent their districts, the Governor must take a broader view and act in the best interest of all Connecticut residents. With the recent vetoes, Governor Lamont demonstrated the thoughtful, steady leadership
Connecticut needs.

As proud moderate Democrats, we believe we reflect the views of the majority of Connecticut residents—and we’re proud to stand with a Governor who does the same.
