Why Become a Junior League of Greenwich Member?

Have you ever asked yourself, “Why become a member of the Junior League of Greenwich?” With everything going on in your life, have you asked yourself why you should become committed to the Junior League?

The backbone of Junior League membership is spelled out in the mission statement:

We’re an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers.

Junior Leagues are more than just volunteer organizations; they are organizations of trained volunteers. That training is what differentiates us from other organizations. Each year the Junior League of Greenwich sets a plan to improve the community through its well thought out projects, staffed with its well-trained members.

A member once artfully stated the obvious:

A JLG volunteer knows how to lead, how to network, how to organize a committee, and how to delegate responsibility in order to do an effective job in researching, strategizing and then implementing all the steps needed to develop and achieve a successful, much-needed community project. By being part of the JLG, additional skills and strategies are learned through valuable programs that enhance leadership, as well as through association and collaboration with other JLG volunteers with varied skill sets and backgrounds who share their area of expertise and thus create a learning experience.

Throughout town, Junior League volunteers are known to be committed individuals with a direction and solid training. Junior League volunteers are known to work diligently in the community to make it a stronger community where needs get met. Junior League members are known to tackle an issue by first doing homework of what needs to get done, how best to accomplish it, and who to partner with. The Junior League of Greenwich is an organization known to be 100% committed to accomplishing the job because members bring positive energy to the table and leadership skills.

People are always curious why a prospective member cannot jump in at any point during the year and start volunteering immediately. The answer lies in the fact that the Junior League’s New Member class is critical in getting its volunteers to where they need to be in order to be effective volunteers.

The training that takes place in this class each year is what sets the Junior League apart. When its New Members become full Active Members, they are hitting the ground running and with a strategic plan in place.

When you have that moment, ask yourself, “Why become a Junior League of Greenwich member?”

When you get pulled in so many different directions by your commitments, reflect on how being a Junior League member could be most relevant in your life. The ongoing training members receive is what sets the Junior League apart and makes the Junior League members effective volunteers, both in the Junior League and outside of it. Junior League of Greenwich trained volunteers will continue to be “women building better communities,” in the most effective ways possible.
