On Veterans Day, Tuesday, Nov. 11, from 10-4 at Cos Cob Fire House, look for the grapefruit display, the Lions in their yellow vests, and stop for a case of Texas’ best grapefruit. The price of a case is $20.

The Old Greenwich Lions Club was chartered back in 1933 under the sponsorship of the Greenwich Lions Club. At least four or five times a year, the club meets jointly with the Greenwich Lions in an effort to foster cooperation as well as to combine their efforts on a major fund raiser, the annual golf tournament.

The annual grapefruit sale, in addition to the pancake “fry,” and a “Charitable Trust” mailing, are all significant sources of income.

Funds raised are used to support Connecticut and International Lions programs, as well as the community. Annually, the club’s contributions total is between $25,000 and $30,000 a year.
