Nora Stern Receives Junior League of Greenwich’s Community Service Award

The Junior League of Greenwich announce on Thursday that  Nora Stern, member of the Greenwich High School class of 2027, is the recipient of its Community  Service Award.

This award recognizes her outstanding contributions to the community, particularly her work with the Rowan Center, League of Women Voters, and YNET at the YWCA.

Nora Stern, a member of the Greenwich High School class of 2027, is the recipient of the Junior League of Greenwich’s Community  Service Award.

Every year since 1996, the Junior League of Greenwich presents a Community Service Award to a local teen girl. The award recognizes an outstanding local high school student who exemplifies the  Junior League’s mission and whose volunteer activities show a significant and sustained commitment to community service and leadership.

Nora is deeply involved with causes aligned with her beliefs.

In her words: “I am particularly passionate about women’s rights and victim services. But more generally, I believe that every member of our town should have equal access to what they need. To achieve this, I believe we need to get more people aware of and engaged in local issues. I love organizing work, and feel lucky that it seems to come easily to me, especially around issues I care deeply about.”

As a freshman last year, Nora created the “Learn Before You Leave Event” at Greenwich Library, teaching incoming college freshmen about the dangers that can occur within the first few months of college life.

The panel, which she moderated with a partner, featured four professionals who discussed different forms of college campus safety risks. Representatives from Kids in Crisis, The Rowan Center, Fordham Emergency Medical Services, and the UCONN Police joined the more than 70 attendees to discuss the issue and resources available.

Nora also organized the event this school year and is working to continue it in the coming years.

“This award reflects exactly what the Junior League stands for—advancing women’s leadership through meaningful community impact,” said Stacey Higdon, President of the Junior League of Greenwich. “We were so impressed by all that Nora is doing to make a difference in Greenwich at such a young age. We congratulate her and are proud to support her continued efforts to make a difference in our community.” She plans to use the award to continue her important work. Nora was presented the award at a reception at the Junior League of Greenwich Headquarters.
