At the Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich the Torch Club Junior Cardinals recently completed a project called “Salute To Our Troops.”

The idea of the project was to raise funds to send care packages to Club alumni and people in their units who are serving our country.

Junior Cardinals members held a bake sale, and members donated money to make it possible to purchase items for the care packages.

The items that were purchased and sent to the troops included toothpaste, toothbrushes, Crystal Light drink packages, playing cards, crossword puzzles, stress balls, Uno cards, Mini Connect 4, Mini Rubik’s Cubes, Santa hats – and most importantly hand written notes.

“The kids were excited about the project and were happy to thank those who protect us every day,” said Camryn Ferrara, who advises the group with Ashley Culver.

The Torch Club is a chartered leadership group for 5th-8th boys and girls. The national awarding winning group elects officers and works together to plan and implement activities based on Service to the Club/Community, health and fitness, and education.

Officers are: President, Jasmine Scott. Vice President, Jayla Hughes. Secretary, Maryssa Aceituno. Treasurer, Ella Matterazzo.
