On Sunday, there was a festive holiday atmosphere at Parsonage Cottage Senior Residence. A spirited group of young individuals worked their magic to create a winter wonderland within the venue. Accompanied by Santa, Mrs. Claus, and a lively group of elves, their visit delighted residents. The event was about gift-giving but also building connections and fostering a sense of community, thanks to the efforts of the Parsonage Cottage Junior Advisory Board.
The Junior Advisory Board, a group of high school students, organized the heartwarming visit for the residents of Parsonage Cottage. The excitement was palpable as Dana Santry, playing Santa, and Carina Taub, playing Mrs. Claus, made their grand entrance in a vibrant red convertible instead of the traditional sleigh. The car’s shiny exterior reflected the twinkling holiday lights as they rolled up to the cottage. Residents eagerly peered out from windows to catch a glimpse of the festive duo. Adorned in their iconic attire—Santa’s fluffy white beard and Mrs. Claus’ cheerful dress—the holiday spirit radiated from them. It was a beautiful reminder that our community comes together in various ways when everyone craves connection and joy during the holidays.
The elves who attended were Hayden Santry, McCrory Niblock, Holden Vintiadis, Owen Lavin, Gavin Haroche, Dylan Ever, Will Stern and Julian Toub. Ben Schuessler participated in the planning but was unable to attend. Gavin is known as the group’s tech guru who helps seniors.
The student “elves” were festively adorned with hats and some ringing bells. As they distributed gifts to the residents, their cheerful spirits filled the atmosphere with joy and nostalgia. Every gift basket with personalized cards was thoughtfully prepared for each resident’s pleasure and comfort. L.L. Bean pajamas in soft fabrics and cheerful patterns stood out among the treasures, promising cozy nights ahead. Sweet treats from See’s Candy added a delightful touch, and practical yet comforting additions such as socks, scented soap, lotion, and ChapStick ensured everyone felt pampered. Meanwhile, games and crosswords promised mental stimulation ahead.
The sounds of music filled Parsonage Cottage, courtesy of Dylan Evers, with a few songs played by Carina Toub. Their festive holiday classics set the perfect tone for the event. As the festivities continued, delicious scents – warm drinks, cookies, and pastries wafted through the air. Among the residents, hot cocoa with marshmallows was popular.
The Parsonage Cottage Junior Advisory Board is comprised of devoted high school students who have positively impacted the residents. With their innovative ideas and dedication, these young leaders have proven that compassion has no boundaries. Previous activities have consisted of a mini-golf fundraiser, an iPad drive, and assisting in obtaining a new Mercedes Sprinter Van for the residents. The joy on the faces of Santa, Mrs. Claus, their helpers, and Parsonage Cottage residents on Sunday proves that community involvement has an impact on creating lasting memories.
