The Greenwich Rotary Club announced its inaugural “Flags for Veterans” event in honor of Veterans Day. The ceremony will take place on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at 12:15pm in front of Greenwich Town Hall. The event will feature a visual tribute to veterans and raise funds to benefit American Legion Post 29.
Organized under the leadership of Rotary Club President Agathe Likoba and spearheaded by veteran and Rotary member Joe Benoit, the ceremony will honor veterans from across the community and within the Rotary Club itself. Special recognition will be given to Joe Benoit, Len Szczesny, and Todd Kennedy, three Rotary members who have served their country with distinction.
This patriotic event, supported by First Selectman Fred Camillo, will give residents the opportunity to sponsor a flag in honor or in memory of a veteran. Flag sponsorships are available for $75, which includes a commemorative medallion that sponsors will keep as a token of appreciation. Proceeds will go directly to American Legion Post 29, helping to provide essential services and support to veterans in the Greenwich area.
During the ceremony, a check from the proceeds will be presented to American Legion Post 29 Commander LeBeau.
The effort reflects a collaboration of the Rotary Leadership Team including Jay Feinsod, Shashi Dayal, Jim Boardman, Sally Parris Bruno, Angela Hyland, Len Szczesny, Geoffrey Parkinson, and Bruno Costa, along with contributions from the Public Relations and Fundraising Committees.
“We are honored to launch the Flags for Veterans initiative as a way to pay tribute to those who have served our nation,” said Rotary President Agathe Likoba in a release. “We invite the entire Greenwich community to come together for this powerful event and to help us show our veterans the respect and gratitude they so deeply deserve.”
