The unofficial New Year’s Day polar plunge at Tod’s Point in Old Greenwich drew a huge crowd on Thursday.
At 12:00noon sharp, the tide was low, making for a long splash through shallow water and over a sand bar for intrepid swimmers into Long Island Sound.
With temps well below freezing, and a brisk wind adding to the sting, comments overheard were, “The water is warmer than the air,” and “I can’t feel my fingers,” and “I can’t feel my legs.”
Greenwich’s hardiest did their best to keep the long running tradition alive. Happy New Year.
