Hudson Valley Honor Flight Announces 2017 Spring Flight Schedule; Invites Fairfield County Veterans to Participate

Two flights will take veterans to visit the nation’s war memorials on daylong trips, leaving from airports close to the Fairfield County border.

The first, called Mission 15, is scheduled for Saturday, April 8 from Stewart International Airport in Newburgh, NY in Orange County, NY.

Mission 16, which is Saturday, May 20, leaves from Westchester County Airport in White Plains, New York.

Hudson Valley Honor Flight (HVHF) is a nonprofit organization honoring American veterans for all their sacrifices by bringing them to Washington, D.C. to visit their respective war memorials at no cost to them.

HVHF is also a local hub of the National Honor Flight Network, which has more than 100 independent non-profit “hubs” nationwide.

Each veteran is accompanied by a volunteer personal “guardian” who is responsible for ensuring that the veteran’s trip is a memorable one. Guardians are responsible for covering the cost of their trip.

“We are looking for Fairfield County veterans to join us,” said Board Chairman Frank Kimler. “There are thousands of area veterans who deserve to be honored for their sacrifice to our country. We are hopeful they, their families or friends will contact us and let us know of their interest.”

Kimler said the region’s veteran’s organizations have been tremendously helpful in getting the word out. “We’re again asking for their assistance to give us names of veterans who would like to make this trip,” he added.

HVHF serves veterans from Fairfield County, CT., Orange, Ulster, Dutchess, Westchester, Rockland, Sullivan and Putnam counties in New York in addition to Pike County, Pa. and Bergen County, NJ. Veterans from other surrounding counties are also considered.
