First Presbyterian Church Nursery School Reaches Out to Seniors

First Presbyterian Church Nursery School hosted a reception for Seniors in the Greenwich community after its annual Christmas Program dress rehearsal this past week. There were over 20 guests in attendance from Riverhouse as well as the First Presbyterian Church, including some school alumni. Seniors were invited to watch the dress rehearsal of the Christmas Concert in the Church Sanctuary followed by cookies and cocoa with some of the nursery school students in Fellowship Hall.

In November, FPCNS families came together to ensure that Seniors and the homebound enjoyed a Thanksgiving meal. Nursery School families baked pumpkin bread that was given to Seniors at the First Presbyterian Church of Greenwich Thanksgiving Dinner for Seniors and the homebound. The school was able to give a loaf to every senior that attended the dinner, plus deliver more to those that couldn’t leave their homes.

At First Presbyterian Church Nursery School, the golden rule – Do unto others as you would have done to you – is a guiding principle.

Helping children apply that rule to their friends and family and eventually to the community around them is the goal of the outreach program at the school.

Teaching children to think about those around them is an important goal of the First Presbyterian Church Nursery School. The FPCNS curriculum is built around helping children to learn “our place in the world”, beginning with their own family, then in the context of their classmates and friends, and eventually as members of the community beyond the school. The Outreach program at FPCNS aims to enhance this learning by giving children the opportunity to engage with the local community.

This year, FPCNS Outreach is focusing on supporting Seniors in Greenwich, an often invisible population. The school’s programs are designed to improve the lives of others while allowing children to experience the satisfaction of helping those around them.

FPCNS strives to develop a love of learning in a nurturing, values-based environment through play and theme-based experiences that prepare each child socially, emotionally, and academically with readiness skills for a successful transition to kindergarten and life beyond. FPCNS is accepting applications for students looking to enroll for the 2016-2017 school year. Students for its Twos program must be two years of age by December 31st, 2016 to start in the Fall of 2016.
