GHS puts on a winter play annually, with Richard Kohn currently directing the productions.

As shown by last year’s production of The Seagull, the GHS Theater Department typically stages one play, a tradition which has occasionally been broken, as is the case with this year. The last time that GHS put on two productions at once was in 2020, when the theater department performed both The Insanity of Mary Girard and The Apollo of Bellac.

The majority of members of the winter play are part of the Theater Workshop elective, in which students learn about all aspects of theater, from acting to lighting design. Additionally, students can audition to be a part of the Honors Program, where they can serve as student leaders.

The shows are double-cast, meaning that each character is performed by two students, who are assigned to a specific cast, which alternates during the performances.

This will also mark the second instance in which the GHS theater department offers a performance at an earlier time, with a Death of a Salesman performance taking place on Thursday, March 7th, at 4:00 p.m. With half-price tickets for students, the goal is that more members of GHS, both students and staff, will be able to see the show.

The theater department’s production of Macbeth earlier in the school year marked the first time that the school gave a 4:00 p.m. performance.

Performances for Steel Magnolias will be performed on March 1 (7:30 p.m.), March 2 (5:00 p.m.), March 8 (8:00 p.m.), and March 9 (5:00 p.m.).

Death of a Salesman will perform on March 2 (8:00 p.m.), March 7 (4:00 p.m.), March 8 (5:00 p.m.), and March 9 (8:00 p.m.).

Performances will be in the Black Box Theater located at Greenwich High School at 10 Hillside Road.
